PUTRAJAYA – Malaysia today recorded its highest daily Covid-19 cases yet at 2,335, bringing the total cumulative infections to 103,900.
Today’s fresh cases exceeded the 2,234 daily cases recorded on December 10.
Kuala Lumpur leads the pack with the most cases today at 728, with Selangor following closely behind at 710 cases.
Meanwhile, the country’s Covid-19 death toll today rose to 451, after two more fatalities were recorded.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that Johor recorded the third-highest number of infections today at 412, followed by Sabah (248), Penang (58), Kelantan (54), Negri Sembilan (33), Perak (26), Pahang (19), Kedah (16), Labuan (16), Sarawak (6), Melaka (5), Putrajaya (3) and Perlis (10).
Meanwhile, 874 Covid-19 patients have recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 88,414.
At present, there are 108 patients being treated in intensive care units, of which 50 require respiratory assistance.
A total of 483 clusters have been identified, including 11 new ones, while 268 clusters have ended.
This brings the total number of active clusters to 215. Of that number, 59 clusters reported a spike in cases today.
The clusters that reported the highest number of new cases are Jalan Seng construction site (232 cases), new cluster Tampoi Jaya (218) and Jalan Harapan prison (156).
Other new clusters announced today are Plastik Subang (111 cases), Halban (29), Lis Putih (24), Sentosa Residensi (18), Seragam Chepa (13), Pagar Bentong (13), Jalan Asam (13), Sg Redan (11) and Semambu (11).
A total of 308 of the new cases reported are related to clusters in lock-ups, immigration detention depots and prisons – Jalan Harapan prison (156 cases), Pagar Siput (128), Tembok (8), Sandakan Prison (7), Pagar Bentong (4), Tembok Gajah (2), GK Tawau (1), Kepayan Prison (1) and Kolam Air (1). – The Vibes, December 26, 2020
