JOHOR BARU – A train heading from the Gemas station to Johor Baru Sentral was halted last night due to subsidence along the railway line near Kempas.
The subsidence, or sinking of the ground’s surface, at Km753 occurred near the site of the Gemas-Johor Baru Electrified Double Tracking Project, and is believed to be due to heavy rain in the afternoon.
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) chief executive Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin, in a statement, said following the incident, the train, carrying 24 passengers, was stopped.
“All passengers were transferred to a bus to continue their journey to the JB Sentral station.
“For now, the train service will end at the Kempas Baru station, and passengers will be provided with shuttle service to continue their journey to the JB Sentral station, and vice-versa.”
He said repair works are under way.
KTMB apologised to passengers affected by the incident.
Johor Baru South district police chief Mohd Padzli Mohd Zain said information on the incident was received about 8.30pm, adding that no injuries were reported. – Bernama, December 27, 2020
