UP to two million road users are likely to be blacklisted by the Road Transport Department (RTD) following their failure to settle outstanding summonses for various traffic offences.
RTD Enforcement Senior Director, Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, said the offences involved Automatic Awareness Safety System (AWAS) summonses (Summon 53A), Notice of Investigation (114) and Notice of Imposition of Summons/JPJ(P)23 (115).
Apart from risking being blacklisted, the compound imposed will also be increased to RM300 in addition to being subject to the Demerit Points System For Traffic Offences (Kejara).
"Therefore, those who have the summons involved should take the opportunity to make payment through the special compound offer with a flat rate of RM150 for the three offences launched from early January to the end of December.
"According to the statistical report from January until yesterday, more than 1.45 million summonses involved AWAS summons notices followed by 114 notices totalling 296,684 and 115 notices totalling 164,598.
"Among the summonses identified are notices that were imposed more than 15 years ago and RTD is still providing opportunities for road users to settle outstanding summonses to avoid their names being blacklisted," he told a press conference as reported by Berita Harian in Kota Bharu, last night.
Muhammad Kifli also shared the location that recorded the highest summonses involving AWAS notices, which is at the Menora Tunnel, Ipoh, which can reach 3,000 summonses per day.
"The number of summonses is the result of two cameras installed and the recorded offenses are mostly committed by road users during the festive season or school holidays who use the route to head north or south.
"Usually, the offense involves vehicles exceeding the permitted speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour (km/h).
"In addition, the three states that recorded the highest summonses are Selangor, Perak and Johor, where the record also depends on the number of AWAS cameras installed in each state," he said.
He explained that the public is advised to take the opportunity to pay the summonses with a 50 percent discount through a special compound offer with a flat rate of RM150 by RTD before stricter action is imposed. – September 30, 2025
