THE Kedah Road Transport Department (RTD) has seized a luxury Toyota Vellfire multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) believed to belong to a national football player because its road tax and insurance had expired.

State RTD director Stien Van Lutam said the vehicle was seized in Ops Luxury, which was carried out in front of the Alor Setar Prison on the Sultanah Bahiyah Highway at about 11.30 am last Thursday.

“When seized, the MPV was driven by a 29-year-old man who is the brother-in-law of the football player involved.

“Inspections found that the MPV's Motor Vehicle License (LKM) had expired on November 18 last year and did not have insurance coverage.

"The driver stated that he did not know the vehicle's road tax had expired," he said as reported.

According to Stien, the special operation was carried out to ensure that all vehicle owners comply with road regulations and laws regardless of status or background.

He said that JPJ Kedah would continue to intensify enforcement operations to ensure that legal compliance was always observed. – May 24, 2026
