GEORGE TOWN – The 1Malaysia People’s Housing Programme (PR1MA) has recorded an increase in sales totalling RM1.9 billion this year, up from RM1.3 billion in 2019, said Zuraida Kamaruddin.
“The housing industry, as per the Housing and Local Government Ministry’s record, still makes encouraging sales. The only problem is that there was no construction during the movement control order from March to June, so it was delayed.
“In term of the sale of PR1MA houses, it is higher in 2020 than in 2019,” the minister told reporters after the groundbreaking ceremony for a Bukit Gelugor residential project here today.
She said the ministry is still able to meet its target of building 100,000 homes a year.
“We have completed building 55,000 units, while those under construction that will be completed by 2021 comprise 150,000 units, which brings the total to 200,000 units for two years, indicating that we will achieve the target.”
On the PR1MA project in Bukit Gelugor, Zuraida said it is the first to be launched in Penang since Covid-19 struck.
“We hope this project will help Penang achieve its target to provide affordable housing to its people. There are 2,850 units priced below RM300,000. (The project) is expected to be completed by 2024.”
She said Penang will now have two PR1MA projects, with the other being in Permatang Pauh, adding that a third is planned for Batu Feringghi. – Bernama, December 27, 2020
