THE government will amend the Consumer Protection Act to include the Lemon Law, which aims to strengthen safeguards for consumers who purchase defective goods.
This move is to strengthen consumer rights and offer better protection for buyers of products ranging from clothing and electronics to cars. such as cars.
This was announced by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in tabling the 2026 Budget, today.
“After the enactment of the Consumer Credit Act, the government will amend the Consumer Protection Act to include elements of the Lemon Law to safeguard the rights of consumers who are often unfairly treated,” he said.
Under the scheme, the government and national carmakers will provide up to RM4,000 for those who dispose of their cars older than 20 years old and replace them with a new national car.
“Cars older than 20 years are not economical and pose a safety risk,” he said in his Budget 2026 speech in the Dewan Rakyat today. - October 10, 2025
