PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced six measures covering fuel subsidies, school maintenance, healthcare, artificial intelligence, micro-financing and small traders as part of the government’s Merdeka Day initiatives.
Anwar said the BUDI MADANI monthly fuel quota would be restored to 300 litres for RON95 and 400 litres for diesel.
"I had to find a way and take a step that would provide relief to the people," he said during his address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) today ahead of Malaysia’s 69th Merdeka Day celebration tomorrow.
The government will also raise the allocation for school maintenance by RM500 million to RM1.5 billion, from RM1 billion previously.
The allocation will cover all types of schools.
For youths, the government will provide three months of free AI subscription services to 100,000 Malaysians aged between 18 and 30.
Anwar said recipients would need to complete an AI learning module through Rakyat Digital before receiving the free subscription.
The government is also setting aside RM1 billion to speed up medical treatment and reduce waiting times, through the use of electronic health records and improved WiFi connectivity.
The initiative will cover 150 hospitals and 2,000 health clinics nationwide.
For micro-businesses, the government will increase financing from RM5 billion to RM6 billion, providing an additional RM1 billion for micro-entrepreneurs.
Another RM200 million will be allocated under the Geran Sejahtera MADANI to assist small traders, including hawkers and night market traders.
On e-Invoicing, Anwar announced that the annual sales threshold for exemption would be raised from RM1 million to RM3 million.
Meanwhile, Anwar said billions of ringgit recovered through legal action from proceeds linked to illegal activities would be channelled back to the public, particularly to strengthen education and healthcare.
He said the move reflected the government’s commitment to ensuring money recovered through legal processes and court decisions ultimately benefited the people. - August 30, 2026
