A PICTURE that speaks a thousand words - that was all Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim posted on his official Facebook page yesterday.
No caption, no explanation. Just a quiet photo of him sitting in a car, cleaning his glasses, looking deep in thought.
But that one post spoke volumes. Within hours, it went viral - drawing more than 32,000 likes and thousands of comments from Malaysians and even neighbouring citizens who saw in it a moment of calm after a demanding week of diplomacy.
The image, uploaded shortly after the conclusion of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, has been interpreted by many as a snapshot of reflection - a leader taking a quiet breath after days of intense discussions, negotiations, and historic milestones.
“Rest well, PMX. You’ve worked so hard travelling here and there. May Allah protect you,” wrote user Mohd Saiful.
Another follower, Vigneswary Jeevajothy, added, “Thank you, Datuk Seri, for all your efforts and hard work for the nation. Please take care and stay healthy always.”
Messages of appreciation even came from abroad.
Cambodian user Moona Ka commented: “Cambodian people would like to respect and thank you so much for your great work on the ceasefire signing agreement,” while another, Sodalin Sok, added, “Now you’ve earned much love from Cambodian people too, sir.”
The comments followed a week that placed Malaysia at the centre of regional diplomacy.
As ASEAN Chair, Anwar had presided over discussions that saw the admission of Timor-Leste as the bloc’s 11th member and the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord between Cambodia and Thailand — a move widely seen as a major step towards regional stability.
Speaking at the summit’s closing ceremony yesterday, Anwar said Malaysia had carried out its chairmanship duties with unity, patience and steady leadership.
“The success of ASEAN is not only measured by the signing of documents, but by the discipline to act with patience and to remain calm amid uncertainty,” he said.
This marks Malaysia’s fifth time helming ASEAN since its establishment in 1967.
With the official handover of the chairmanship to the Philippines, Malaysia’s term now enters its final phase - one defined not just by policy achievements, but also by a renewed spirit of unity.
And in that quiet image of Anwar - alone, reflective, and thoughtful - many Malaysians found the perfect closing note: a reminder that sometimes, the most powerful messages need no words at all. – October 29, 2025
