MALAYSIA recorded 6% gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the second quarter of 2026, ranking second among six ASEAN economies highlighted by PKR lawmaker Sim Tze Tzin.

Sim said the growth came as the global economy continued to face pressure from ongoing wars, US trade tariffs and disruptions to oil and gas supplies in the Middle East.

“Two wars. US trade tariffs. Middle East oil and gas disruptions.

“Yet Malaysia continues to achieve remarkable economic success,” he said in a Facebook post.

An infographic shared by Sim showed Vietnam recording the highest growth at 8.39%, followed by Malaysia at 6%. (main pix)

Singapore recorded 5.9% growth, while Indonesia posted 5.29%.

The Philippines and Thailand recorded growth of 2.3% and 1.9% respectively.

Sim credited the government’s leadership and the efforts of Malaysians for Malaysia’s performance.

“Credit goes to strong government leadership and the hard work of Malaysians,” he said.

He said Malaysia should continue moving forward despite the uncertain global economic climate.

“Together, we keep Malaysia moving forward,” Sim said. – August 21, 2026
