IPOH – The Perak government has throughout this year planted some 1.21 million trees in all permanent forest reserve areas.
Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said this initiative will continue, in line with a campaign to plant 100 million trees over five years starting next year. The campaign is led by the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry in collaboration with the Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department and state forestry departments.
“The objective of this campaign is to maintain and increase greenery throughout the country, as well as to protect trees and conserve forests.
“Fostering a love of nature and awareness on the importance of trees must be enhanced in ensuring that forests cover at least 50% of the country’s land area,” he told reporters here today.
Saarani said the state Forestry Department has launched a Green Earth programme as a platform to encourage tree planting activities among private companies.
He said through the programme, tree planting and conservation activities had been carried out at the Sg Chikus Forest Reserve in Teluk Intan, which saw about 15,000 trees being planted.
“The state government welcomes cooperation or contribution of ideas to help promote greening and forest conservation activities in Perak, either on forest reserve areas or state government land.” – Bernama, December 28, 2020
