A SINKHOLE occurred along Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim, near the Jalan Kenari junction in Sungai Ara, George Town this afternoon.

Penang Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Exco, Zairil Khir Johari said the incident was detected early and had been reported to the Penang Public Works Department (JKR) for further action.

According to him, the JKR team is currently at the incident location to carry out emergency mitigation works to ensure the safety of road users.

“The public is advised to be careful and obey the instructions of staff on duty at the location,” he said in a statement.

He added that currently, Jalan Kenari and Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim have been closed to road users.

“So far, there have been no reports of victims or accidents following the incident.

"Repair and monitoring works will be carried out to avoid risks to road users," he said. - November 4, 2025
