THE Government has officially launched a landmark industrial cluster development initiative for the Central Region, seeking to connect industries, boost innovation, and attract investment.
Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, who announced the initiative today during a flagship seminar in Kuala Lumpur, described the programme as “a practical step—not just a policy on paper,” designed to link national frameworks such as the New Industrial Master Plan 2033 (NIMP 2033), National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), and Green Industrial Scheme (GIS) to the real needs of firms and workers.
“By linking industries and regions, we aim to create prosperity that’s felt on the ground. That’s the success that counts,” he said.
The initiative highlights the Central Region’s strategic importance, encompassing talent hubs, infrastructure, research centres, and logistics networks.
Tengku Zafrul emphasised the role of partnership between federal and state leadership, industry players, and academic institutions in maximising the region’s industrial potential.
“Malaysia succeeds when we work together…aligned around a single objective: to unlock the Central Region’s full industrial potential and translate it into better jobs, stronger supply chains, and higher value creation for Malaysians,” he said.
The programme prioritises sectors where Malaysia is already competitive, including electrical and electronics, pharmaceuticals and medical products, and food manufacturing within the halal economy.
The Minister cited the KLIA-Subang-Serendah corridor as an example of effective clustering, noting that fast-moving parts, nearby talent, and close innovation networks reduce lead times, mitigate risks, and boost productivity.
The minister also highlighted Malaysia’s broader regional engagement, pointing to recent ASEAN, APEC, and US–Malaysia trade initiatives that strengthen connectivity, streamline supply chains, and open markets for local firms.
“Malaysia’s economic diplomacy at work with regional market groupings and major economies…creates certainty and predictability for investors’ long-term planning,” he said.
He urged participants to leverage the day’s business clinics, B2B sessions, and technical briefings to forge partnerships and accelerate industrial growth.
“The Government’s role is to facilitate, convene and accelerate—and we intend to do exactly that,” he said.
The Central Region Industrial Cluster Development Initiative represents a concerted effort to integrate Malaysia’s industrial ecosystem, drive high-value investment, and position the region as a leading hub for innovation and manufacturing in Southeast Asia. - November 11, 2025
