MALAYSIA'S top anti-corruption official, Tan Sri Azam Baki, has praised the government's unwavering leadership in tackling corruption and addressing systemic leakages that have plagued the nation for decades.
He described the recent successes of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as a major step forward in the country's fight against illicit activities.
"The recognition by the Prime Minister for dismantling cartels as large as a ‘container’ is a huge boost for all MACC personnel to continue our battle against corruption," Azam said, referring to the recent dismantling of a major cartel involved in large-scale corruption.
He emphasised that the success of these operations is the result of thorough investigations, coordinated efforts across various enforcement agencies, including the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN), the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Customs, and other agencies.
"These actions are not the result of a quick fix, but are based on in-depth investigations and the use of cutting-edge technology," Azam added.
"The cartels we are targeting are not small-scale operations. They have vast networks, significant capital, and long-standing protections. However, with the government's clear mandate, MACC and other enforcement agencies have successfully dismantled these dark networks."
Azam also expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the recognition given to enforcement agencies in their efforts to combat leakage and corruption.
He reiterated that MACC remains fully committed to addressing all forms of corruption, including smuggling, tax evasion, national revenue theft, and money laundering, with no tolerance for those involved, regardless of their position or influence. November 14, 2025
