A MAN’S eerie early-morning encounter in Kampung Sungai Tengas took an unexpected turn when an object he initially feared was a ghost in a nearby well turned out to be a cow stranded in the water.

According to Leftenan (PA) Abdul Rahim Khairudin, officer of the Bandar Baharu Civil Defence Force, the emergency call came through at 2.40 a.m. A five-member team arrived shortly thereafter and found the cow trapped in the water-filled well.

“Using ropes, our team managed to bring the cow out, which took nearly 30 minutes. The operation was carried out with great care to avoid injuring the animal, as sudden movements could have complicated the rescue,” Abdul Rahim said.

The cow was successfully released, and the operation concluded at 4.30 a.m., leaving both the rescuers and local residents relieved at the unusual but successful early-morning intervention. -  November 19, 2025
