A MAN died after a coupling shaft weighing more than 100 kilograms (kg) from a tipper lorry came loose, ricocheted through the windscreen of the car he was riding in and hit the victim in the face this morning.
The incident occurred at about 8.30am on Jalan Sri Bengkal, near Sri Gading, Batu Pahat, Johor when the victim, Juhari Murid, 63, was travelling in a Perodua Alza with several family members from Senggarang to Felda Pemanis in Segamat on a family matter.
As a result of the incident, the victim was seriously injured and confirmed dead, while his wife, Zaina Khalid, 58, and three of his siblings, including the driver of the Perodua Alza, did not suffer any injuries.
The victim's daughter, Noor Shahin, 31, said she was shocked to receive a call from a cousin informing that her father had been in an accident and had died at the scene.
Noor Shahin said she had time to make a video call to her father yesterday and at that time, the deceased was very happy and couldn't wait to meet his grandson, Mohd Aidan Rizki Firdaus, who was three months old in Parit Simpan, today.
"My father said he missed his grandson. So I wanted to go back today, but this time I'm only going back to look at my father's body," she said.
The deceased's son, Mohd Danis Hakim, 22, hopes that the owner of the lorry or the company involved will be severely punished for the negligence that took his father's life.
Batu Pahat District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani, when contacted, confirmed that police had received a report regarding the incident.
