KUALA LUMPUR – Johor's Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar today admonished the people of Mersing over the cleanliness – or lack of it – of their town.
In a Facebook post today, he highlighted its beaches covered in litter, including tyres, plastic packaging, fishing nets and household waste.
“I’m saddened with what I’ve seen. What is happening in Mersing? It is supposed to be a tourist destination but tourists are greeted with rubbish.
“Are we not ashamed if we invite guests to our dirty house? Change your attitude and get rid of your filthy attitude.”
He said this unhygienic environment will affect the public’s health.
He added that Mersing should look to the Muar district, which was grant Asean’s cleanest tourism city in 2018.
“Mersing has great potential for further development in eco-tourism as it serves as a gateway to nearby islands.
“I have ideas to attract investments and growth in Mersing but the people have to play their role by keeping the place clean. Nobody wants to visit a place that is dirty.”
He also urged local authorities to issue compounds effectively to ensure the people are more disciplined about keeping the environment clean. – The Vibes, December 29, 2020
