A MAN has admitted to assaulting veteran journalist Haresh Deol during an incident in Bangsar earlier this week, entering a guilty plea before the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court this morning.
New Straits Times reported on Friday that R. Krishnan, 37, pleaded guilty when the charge was read out before magistrate Ili Marisqa Khalizan. He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, an offence that provides for a maximum sentence of one year’s imprisonment, a fine, or both.
The attack on Haresh, a long-standing figure in Malaysian journalism, sparked renewed calls for stronger protections for media practitioners, though details of the motive behind the assault have not yet been disclosed in court.
