SABAH’S newly formed government must place the people’s aspirations at the heart of its administration, regardless of the political parties represented in the State Assembly, Deputy Secretary-General of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said.
Armizan, who is also the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, stressed that every assemblyman carries the same responsibility to deliver on the electorate’s expectations through a government that is stable, inclusive and principled.
He noted that the Sabah Cabinet sworn in earlier in the day was established on the shared commitment of the participating parties to chart the state’s future direction.
“Notwithstanding that no coalition secured a simple majority to form the government, the people who went to the polls mandated that a government be established to bring about more meaningful and valuable change,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday night.
He added that “The agenda of prioritising and upholding Sabah’s rights and interests will be the central pillar, as set out in the election pledges of all parties and assemblymen involved.”
Armizan also highlighted the significance of the five Independent assemblymen, all of whom were previously affiliated with GRS prior to nomination day, saying that their voices are now central to shaping the state’s political landscape.
He emphasised that opposition assemblymen likewise play an essential role in maintaining checks and balances to ensure the state government remains relevant and responsive.
A total of 10 Sabah ministers took their oaths of office before the Yang Dipertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, at Istana Seri Kinabalu earlier on Monday. On Sunday morning, GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor was sworn in as Chief Minister.
The newly minted state cabinet comprises seven GRS assemblymen, with one representative each from the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH). - December 2, 2025
