THE drug case mention proceedings of local director and rapper, Namewee, scheduled for today at the Magistrate's Court was postponed as he was unable to attend after being infected with Influenza A.

In proceedings in two separate courts before Magistrates, Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim and S Arunjothy today, lawyer, Joshua Tay representing Namewee or real name Meng Chee, 42, informed that his client was absent due to ill health.

Joshua produced his client's medical certificate that he was granted three days' sick leave from a private hospital including a medical report stating that the accused was infected with Influenza A.

Accordingly, both courts then set the case for mention on 22 December and 19 January next year.

The prosecution in both cases was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutors, Vivi’ Asnitha Zaina’ Larifin and Izzat Amir Idham. Namewee was charged with the first charge, which was possession of drugs suspected to be Ecstasy with an estimated weight of 5.12 grams in a hotel room on Jalan Conlay here at 4.30 pm, on 22 October.

He was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952 which is punishable under Section 39A(1) of the same act which carries a prison sentence of between two and five years and a whipping of between three and nine strokes.

For the second charge, he was charged with administering to himself, drugs of the type Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, 11-nor-delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol-9-carbolic acid (THC) and Ketamine.

The charge was made under Section 15(1)(a) of the ADB 1952 which carries a fine of not more than RM5,000 or imprisonment of not more than two years and supervision of between two and three years, if convicted. – December 18, 2025
