A HUSBAND and wife have been arrested after a 10-year-old boy with physical injuries was found in a state of fear yesterday evening.

Nilai District Police Chief, Superintendent Johari Yahya said the man and woman, both in their 20s, were arrested at about 2pm today at the Nilai District Police Headquarters (IPD).

"The incident came to light at about 5.30pm yesterday when a man found the boy abandoned, scared and shivering outside a convenience store in Star Valley, here.

"A civilian took the boy to a safe place and contacted the police," he said in a statement today.

He said that as a result of the police's swift action, the child was taken to the Nilai IPD and further investigations were carried out to locate the victim's guardian.

"Following the investigation, police arrested a man and a woman, believed to be the victim's stepfather and biological mother, respectively, to assist in the investigation.

"Initial examinations found that there were injuries suspected of being due to abuse on several parts of the victim’s body. The victim was referred to the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital (HTJ), Seremban for a health check-up and further treatment.

"Further investigation also found that the victim had received treatment at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR), Klang, Selangor, in 2020.

"This was after suffering a 'non-accidental injury', namely burns from exposure to hot water on the head, right shoulder, chest and back of the body," he said.

He said that the case is being investigated under Section 31(1), the Children's Act 2001.

"We take any form of child abuse seriously and will not compromise with any individual who commits such acts.

"The public is advised to immediately report information to the police if they suspect child abuse or neglect," he said. – January 7, 2026
