KUALA LUMPUR – A man whose video went viral on social media for refusing to stop his vehicle after being ordered by police was detained recently and sentenced to a month in jail by the magistrate’s court here today for obstructing police officers in discharging their duties.
Magistrate M. Saravanan sentenced Mohd Fazreen Azmi, 26, a car repossessor, after he pleaded guilty to the charge and ordered him to serve the jail sentence from today.
Fazreen is charged with intentionally obstructing Corporal Mohammad Hasrul Saadon from carrying out his duties at Jalan Persiaran Gurney, Wangsa Maju, here at 4.45pm on December 24. The offence was committed under Section 186 of the Penal Code that carries a maximum jail term of two years, a fine of RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Zuraidi Zulkifli prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer P. Suthes.
On Saturday, Bernama reported that a police team had spotted a four-wheel drive on Jalan Gurney driven by a 26-year-old man (accused) with a 24-year-old woman in a suspicious manner, but refused to stop when directed to do so.
Wangsa Maju district police chief Rajab Ahad Ismail said the suspect sped off towards Jalan Tun Razak before being detained when he had to slow down in a traffic jam in front of Lot 10 shopping mall in Bukit Bintang.
Following the incident, a 15-second video clip went viral, showing a traffic policeman trying to break the windshield of a four-wheel drive with a helmet after the driver tried to ram into the police trying to detain him. – Bernama, December 30, 2020
