A WOMAN appeared in the Johor Bahru Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to face a charge of murdering a seven-year-old boy in Pasir Gudang last December.

Saniah Osman, 55, a trader, appeared subdued in court and merely nodded when the charge was read before Magistrate Nabilah Nizam.

According to the charge, Saniah is accused of killing Muhammad Aswad Muhammad Fairuz in the living room of a house in Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang, between 7.30pm on 29 December and 1.30am on 30 December 2025.

The prosecution is framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence, or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years if the death penalty is not imposed.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Deana Aqilah Aliman is handling the case.

The court denied bail for the accused and fixed 9 March for the next mention, during which post-mortem, chemical, and DNA reports are expected to be obtained. - January 9, 2025
