A MODERATE earthquake measuring magnitude 5.4 struck the Banda Sea at 5.59am on January 13, 2026, according to seismic data recorded by Malaysian authorities.
The epicentre was located at latitude 7.9 degrees south and longitude 129.0 degrees east, at a depth of 81 kilometres. The quake occurred approximately 472 kilometres south of Ambon, Indonesia.
METMalaysia confirmed that the seismic event poses no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
