GANGSTERISM is believed to be among the key factors behind a series of shooting cases in Selangor, including the fatal incident involving a local man in Banting earlier this month, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said on Friday.
Speaking to reporters, Shazeli said investigations into shooting cases recorded over the past year had yielded encouraging developments, although details could not be disclosed at this stage.
“Investigations are ongoing, and we ask all parties to give the police space to carry out their work.
“The ongoing probes are showing positive indications, but details cannot be shared with the public or media as it may compromise the investigation,” he said.
Shazeli was responding to questions on the investigation into the fatal shooting of a local man in his late 30s near a fast-food restaurant in Banting on the night of Jan 4. The case has drawn public attention amid concerns over gun-related violence in the state.
He was speaking after officiating the handover ceremony of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport district police chief at the KLIA district police headquarters here.
At the ceremony, Assistant Commissioner M. Ravi was appointed as the new KLIA district police chief, replacing Senior Assistant Commissioner Azman Shari’at, who has been reassigned as Deputy Director of Management for Training, Examinations and Competency at Bukit Aman.
Earlier, in his address, Shazeli congratulated Azman on his service, noting his leadership during one year and nine months at the helm of the KLIA district police headquarters. - January 16, 2026
