THE People's Progressive Party (PPP) has been reinstated as a component party in Barisan Nasional (BN), said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The BN Chairman said the formalities of the recognition would be held at the BN Supreme Council meeting in Kota Kinabalu on January 21.

"Here I am holding a letter from the Registration of Societies (ROS) dated Nov 25, 2025, which states that PPP is a party in Barisan Nasional," he said when opening the 72nd PPP General Assembly at the Merdeka Hall, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL).

Also present were PPP President, Datuk Dr J Loga Bala Mohan; BN Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir; BN/UMNO Wanita Chief, Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad; BN/UMNO Youth Chief, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh and the top leadership and PPP delegates.

He said that, from now on, no party can dispute the PPP's legitimate position within BN, reported Bernama.

At a press conference later, Ahmad Zahid said that the recognition confirmed PPP as a full member of BN and the official announcement was deliberately delayed so that it could be made during the PPP General Assembly.

"My friends and I deliberately delayed this announcement because we were waiting for the PPP General Assembly to be held," he said.

Ahmad Zahid said that the core membership of BN now involves five parties, namely UMNO, MIC, MCA, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) and PPP.

He said the recognition of PPP was important to ensure stability and strengthen unity among the BN component parties. – January 18, 2026
