BARISAN Nasional (BN) through its candidate, Mohd Ayob Ismail, defended the Lamag State Legislative Assembly seat with a majority of 5,681 votes.

The results were officially announced by Returning Officer, Dr Eddy Syaizul Rizam at the Official Vote Counting Centre at Dewan Sri Lamag, a short while ago.

Mohd Ismail, who faced competition from Parti WARISAN candidate Mazliwati Abdul Malek, obtained 7,269 votes compared to Mazliwati's 1,588 votes.

Mohd Ismail, or better known as MIHA, was previously an Independent candidate for the Lamag State Assembly seat, and he was the strongest competitor during the last Sabah State Election (PRN).

MIHA at that time obtained 3,755 votes behind the incumbent, the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who obtained 3,908 with a difference of only 153 votes. The Lamaq DUN by-election was held simultaneously with the Kinabatangan Parliamentary seat following the death of Bung Moktar on 5 December. – January 24, 2026
