HUMANITY transcends race, ethnicity, and religion, a truth exemplified by the compassionate actions of a Malaysian nurse whose care for an elderly patient recently went viral on social media

Nur Deena Nadzhiefa, the nurse in question, was seen tenderly feeding an elderly Indian man, an act that quickly captured the hearts of the public and earned her formal recognition from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM).

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said he had the opportunity to meet Nur Deena in person during the inauguration of the new Seberang Jaya Hospital building on Saturday.

He described the viral video showcasing her sincerity as deeply moving and reflective of the highest standards of care in the nursing profession.

“While the award I presented is modest in comparison, it cannot match the value of the empathy demonstrated by Deena. She has shown that the most powerful medicine in a hospital is not only pills or injections, but treatment delivered with genuine compassion,” Dr Dzulkefly wrote on Facebook.

The minister further commended Nur Deena for embodying the spirit of Malaysia through her daily duties, expressing hope that her exemplary conduct will serve as an inspiration to healthcare professionals and the wider society.

“This recognition is a symbol of appreciation for humanitarian values, in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI and KKM’s commitment to fostering a healthcare culture that is both caring and empathetic,” he added.

Nur Deena’s actions highlight that small acts of kindness can resonate widely, reinforcing the idea that empathy remains at the heart of effective healthcare. - January 25, 2026
