Investigations continue under the Child Act - January 29, 2026

THE death of a two-year-old boy who was found inside a parked car in Negeri Sembilan remains unexplained, with post-mortem results showing no physical injuries or damage to internal organs, police said.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the autopsy, which took nearly five hours and began at 2.30pm at the Forensic Medical Unit of Hospital Rembau, also confirmed that the child tested negative for Covid-19.

“The cause of death is classified as undetermined at this time. Further investigations are still ongoing under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001,” he told Bernama today.

Alzafny said the victim’s mother, a 35-year-old woman who was detained yesterday to assist in the investigation, was released on police bail this morning. He added that she may be recalled for further questioning if necessary, as the case is still under investigation.

The police chief also urged parents to remain vigilant and to always be aware of their children’s whereabouts, particularly when they are in or around vehicles. He reminded the public to refrain from speculating about the incident while investigations are ongoing.

In the incident, the toddler was found dead inside a car along Jalan Tunku Hassan after he was believed to have been left behind by his mother, who works at a nearby bank, at around 8am.

The tragedy only came to light at about 5pm, after the woman had finished work and returned to the vehicle. - January 29, 2026
