A 72-YEAR-OLD woman was injured after being dragged about 10 metres during a snatch theft at Kampung Paloh Rambai in Ketereh, Kelantan, on Wednesday morning.

Kota Bharu district police chief ACP Mohd Azmir Damiri said police received a report from the victim at 11.50am. The incident had occurred earlier at about 10.30am, while the woman was burning rubbish in the yard of her home.

He said the victim was approached by two unknown men riding a motorcycle.

“One suspect got off the motorcycle and snatched a bracelet from the victim’s left wrist and pulled at the necklace she was wearing,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Azmir said the victim struggled with the suspect in an attempt to defend herself, causing her to be dragged along the road before both men fled the scene. As a result of the incident, the elderly woman sustained injuries to several parts of her body and suffered losses amounting to tens of thousands of ringgit.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code, and efforts to track down the suspects are ongoing, he said.

He advised members of the public to remain alert to their surroundings and to avoid displaying valuable items excessively, in order to reduce the risk of becoming targets of crime. - January 29, 2026
