MEMBERS of Parliament will focus on several key issues during today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting, including the rollout of the low-premium Medical and Health Insurance and Takaful (MHIT) plan and questions regarding the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
According to the Order Paper on Parliament’s website, Khoo Poay Tiong (PH–Kota Melaka) is scheduled to ask the Finance Minister to elaborate on the objectives of the MHIT scheme, which carries monthly premiums starting at just RM80.
He will seek clarification on the plan’s intended target groups and the extent to which it is expected to reduce household medical expenses compared with existing insurance coverage.
At the same session, Datuk Matbali Musah (GRS–Sipitang) will question the Prime Minister on how the current administration’s approach to MA63 differs from previous governments, including the expected direct benefits for the people of Sabah and Sarawak.
The session will also cover domestic cost-of-living concerns, with Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PN–Kuala Krai) asking the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister about the effectiveness of the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme (eCOSS) in delivering subsidised cooking oil to elderly and rural households without internet access. He will also seek assurances that the application-based system does not exclude any beneficiaries.
Education matters are also on the agenda, as Datuk Shamshulkahar Mohd Deli (BN–Jempol) plans to question the Higher Education Minister on measures to ensure graduates possess genuine competencies and do not become excessively dependent on artificial intelligence, following insights from the Student Generative AI Survey 2025.
Concerns over pilgrimage access will also be addressed, with Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH–Port Dickson) asking the Prime Minister to outline both short- and long-term measures to facilitate Tabung Haji depositors in performing the haj, amid reports that financial and health factors have led some Malaysians to defer or decline participation during the 1446H season.
Following the question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat will continue its debate on the Motion of Thanks for the Royal Address.
The current parliamentary sitting is scheduled to last 20 days, concluding on March 3.
The session highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to address key social, economic, and regional issues, from affordable healthcare and cost-of-living support to equitable development for Sabah and Sarawak, education standards, and facilitating religious obligations for Malaysian citizens. - January 29, 2026
