THE disappearance of a woman who had failed to return home for several days ended in tragedy early this morning when her body was discovered inside a house in Taman Damai II, Batu Pahat, in what police believe was a case of murder.
The victim, a 41-year-old supermarket worker, was found dead at around 1am following a police raid on a double-storey terrace house.
Investigators suspect she was killed by her boyfriend, allegedly by suffocation, with her face believed to have been pressed against a pillow.
Police sources said the suspect, a 44-year-old unemployed man, is believed to have killed the woman in the early hours of Tuesday.
Her body was only discovered several days later after officers forced entry into the house.
During the raid, the woman was found unconscious in the living room, while the suspect sustained injuries to his neck and left arm, believed to be self-inflicted.
He was subsequently arrested and taken to Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail for medical treatment.
The case came to light after the victim’s brother lodged a police report when his sister failed to return home for several days, prompting an investigation that led officers to the house where the couple had been staying.
Earlier today, the Magistrates’ Court in Batu Pahat granted a seven-day remand order against the suspect to facilitate investigations into the woman’s death.
The order was issued by Magistrate Nurasidah A Rahman under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which covers murder.
The remand proceedings were conducted at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail, where the suspect remains under treatment for his injuries.
A visit to the house revealed a quiet scene, with police cordoning off the property using security tape as investigations continued.
Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed the incident when contacted and said an official statement would be issued in due course.
The case adds to growing concerns over fatal violence within intimate relationships, highlighting how delayed intervention and hidden domestic disputes can end in irreversible loss. - January 30, 2026
