PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang did not attend a pre-council meeting held at Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s residence yesterday, but his views on the coalition’s future have already been formally communicated to all component party leaders of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
PAS political secretary Mohd Syahir Mohd Sulaiman explained that Abdul Hadi’s absence was due to a last-minute change in schedule, which had been promptly conveyed to Muhyiddin.
“Yes, there was a last-minute schedule change on Tuan Guru’s (Abdul Hadi’s) side. Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PAS Secretary-General) has already informed Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin of Tuan Guru’s absence. Tuan Guru’s views have also been submitted in writing to all PN component party presidents,” Mohd Syahir said.
While two other PN party presidents, Datuk Dr Dominic Lau of GERAKAN and P Punithan of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIPP), attended the meeting, the absence of PAS leaders has prompted speculation that the party may be moving away from the coalition.
Mohd Syahir, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bachok, stressed that both Abdul Hadi and PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man remain committed to strengthening PN.
“At this stage, we have not received any official feedback regarding the pre-council meeting. We are awaiting the full-council meeting to finalise any pending matters.
From PAS’ side, we want everything to be orderly and managed in accordance with the Constitution and established regulations. Abdul Hadi and Tuan Ibrahim have emphasised that PAS wants PN to be reinforced,” he said.
By issuing a formal written statement despite not attending in person, PAS seeks to assert that its commitment to the coalition remains steadfast, signalling a preference for structured, constitutionally grounded engagement over ad hoc political gestures. - January 30, 2026
