THE Royal Malaysia Police are conducting a detailed investigation into allegations that a man sustained injuries after being assaulted by police officers during Ops Samseng Jalanan in Dungun, Terengganu, recently.
Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin said a report had been received and an investigation paper opened under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which relates to voluntarily causing grievous hurt. He stressed that no individual would be shielded should the allegations be substantiated.
“For your information, we have received a report related to this incident and an investigation will be conducted. The allegation involves an individual who claims he was beaten and injured by police officers,” he said.
“The investigation has been opened under Section 326 of the Penal Code. If the findings show that the allegation is true and involves members of the Royal Malaysia Police, I will not protect any offender and firm action will be taken,” he told reporters after the Terengganu police monthly assembly in Kuala Nerus today.
The case drew public attention after images circulated on social media yesterday showing a man with visible injuries, with claims that he had been assaulted by police during the operation.
Mohd Khairi confirmed that a video related to the incident had also gone viral, but said the footage did not clearly show the alleged act of beating.
“Nevertheless, the allegation is being taken seriously and a more detailed investigation will be carried out to establish the actual facts of the case,” he said.
He added that the Dungun district police chief had been instructed to conduct further investigations, including identifying all individuals involved.
“At this stage, investigations are ongoing and the complainant is being called to complete his statement. If there are witnesses who saw the incident, their information will also be taken into account,” he said.
Mohd Khairi said the probe was still underway and advised the public not to speculate, warning that unfounded assumptions could interfere with the investigation process. - February 1, 2026
