A FATAL traffic accident in Muar claimed the life of a Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) student and left four of his friends injured when the car they were travelling in skidded off the road on Jalan Felda Moakil yesterday.

The incident occurred at approximately 1.05 pm as the five engineering students were returning to their campus following a visit to a waterfall near Bekok.

The victim, identified as Mohd Amir Faizal Hasrolnizam, 21, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining severe head injuries.

Muar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, stated, “Three other UTHM students were injured in the accident.

The driver, Dameer Amir Mokhzani Aris, 21, suffered severe head injuries, while passengers Ameer Ikhwan Ahmad Nurul Lail, 21; Muhammad Aiman Musa, 21; and Muhammad Hakimi Hisyamuddin, 21, sustained minor injuries. All injured parties are currently receiving treatment at Hospital Segamat.”

Police investigations revealed that the group was travelling in a Honda Accord from Labis to Pagoh when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off to the left side of the road.

“The body has been transported to Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah for a post-mortem examination. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” Raiz Mukhliz added.

Authorities have urged anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward at the nearest police station to assist with the investigation. - February 1, 2026
