A UNIVERSITY of Malaya student who was reported missing earlier this week has been found safe after independently seeking psychological treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, authorities said on Thursday.
The student, Nawal Shahirah Mohd Jamil, 23, had been reported missing since Tuesday, prompting concern among her family, friends and the wider university community.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said checks conducted by police in coordination with the hospital confirmed that the missing person had presented herself at Hospital Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
He said her current condition was stable and she had been admitted to a ward for mental health observation.
“The missing person has been found safe and came on her own to receive psychological treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur,” he said in a brief statement issued on Thursday night.
“The missing person is believed to be experiencing emotional stress following the death of a family member, namely her mother,” he added.
Separately, the University of Malaya Students’ Union also confirmed the matter in a post on Instagram, informing the public that Nawal Shahirah had been located and was safe.
However, the post noted that she had requested privacy at this time.
