HIS Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has voiced strong displeasure and sorrow over an incident involving the burning of flares, allegedly by supporters of Selangor FC, at the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge on Feb 1.
In a statement issued by Istana Alam Shah, the Sultan, who is the patron of Selangor FC, said he did not condone immoral conduct such as hooliganism and gangsterism, which he noted was becoming increasingly prevalent among local football supporters, particularly those wearing Selangor FC jerseys.
“His Royal Highness wants the police to identify the mastermind behind the incident and, if those involved are found guilty, they must be punished with the maximum and appropriate penalties under the law.
“This is to serve as a lesson to other Selangor FC supporters so that similar incidents do not recur,” said the statement posted today on the Selangor Royal Office’s social media platforms.
In the same statement, the Sultan urged all Selangor FC supporters to exercise self-control at all times and to safeguard the good name of the team and the state.
“His Royal Highness also suggested that Selangor FC supporters who are convicted of causing disturbances should be banned from entering stadiums to attend any matches involving the team,” the statement added.
The media had earlier reported that Selangor FC supporters detained for disrupting public order and causing public anxiety by burning flares were being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code.
Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin said investigations were also being conducted into offences related to drug abuse and possession.
He revealed that 24 of the 33 Selangor FC supporters arrested for causing public disturbance at the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge yesterday afternoon tested positive for drugs, including three individuals found in possession of cannabis and Erimin 5. - February 3, 2026
