PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has praised the historical epic Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story after watching the film at a special preview screening here on Sunday night.
The film, which portrays the enduring love between Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, was written, produced and directed by Anwar’s longtime friend Akbar Khan.
“A great work,” the Prime Minister said briefly after attending the screening at a GSC cinema in IOI City Mall.
Also present were Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din and National Film Development Corporation Malaysia chairman Datuk Gerald Hans Isaac.
More than two decades after its original release in India, the award-winning film has been revived through a comprehensive 4K digital restoration, accompanied by a Dolby Atmos sound remix.
Malaysia is the first stop in the film’s international tour, which will continue in Indonesia on 13 February, followed by screenings in Russia, South Asia and West Asia.
In a related development, Anwar confirmed that he will personally welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon his arrival in Malaysia tomorrow afternoon.
He said Modi is expected to arrive at the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, where he will be received by the Prime Minister.
Modi’s two-day official visit, beginning tomorrow, is a reciprocal visit following Anwar’s official trip to India in August 2024.
The visit is expected to further strengthen Malaysia–India relations and deepen cooperation across a range of areas of mutual interest, building on the longstanding friendship established since diplomatic ties were formed in 1957 and the elevation of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024.
In 2025, total trade between Malaysia and India reached RM79.49 billion, with Malaysia’s exports to India amounting to RM52.3 billion and imports totalling RM27.19 billion. - February 7, 2026
