THE Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is studying a mechanism to bar the use of foreign credit cards at outdoor terminals for the purchase of RON95 petrol in the country.
Its Minister, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, said this is to ensure that the RON95 subsidy is only enjoyed by eligible citizens.
He said that the KPDN will also come up with new regulations that prohibit the purchase of subsidised RON95 by foreign-registered vehicles.
“Through this new regulation, prohibitions and legal action can be taken against owners or drivers of foreign-registered vehicles.
“This regulation is targeted to be completed and come into effect starting on April 1, 2026,” he said during his closing speech on the motion of thanks to the royal address at the Dewan Rakyat today.
This comes following calls to hold perpetrators accountable instead of the liability solely being borne by petrol station operators.
In addition, he said, inspections under Ops Samar will also be enhanced at petrol stations identified as hotspot areas to combat fraudulent activities.
Meanwhile, Armizan said that access to 1,006 websites was blocked for various offences involving the promotion and advertising of online transaction businesses.
According to him, the action was the result of cooperation between the KPDN, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and internet service providers (ISPs) last year.
“During the same period, 695 advertisements were taken down as a result of cooperation with e-commerce platform providers.
“Along with the proposed legal reforms, the government is taking a more integrated approach through cooperation between agencies and strengthening the role of digital platforms,” he said. – February 9. 2026
