TAN Sri Mohd Isa Samad is set to know on Tuesday whether he will continue to enjoy his freedom or be ordered to serve a prison sentence over nine corruption charges involving RM3.09 million.
A three-member panel of the Federal Court, comprising Justices Datuk Nordin Hassan, Datuk Lee Swee Seng and Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali, will deliver its decision on the prosecution’s final appeal against the acquittal of the former Felda chairman and former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar.
The prosecution is seeking to reinstate the High Court’s decision dated 3 February 2021, which found Mohd Isa guilty on all nine corruption charges involving RM3.09 million.
The High Court had sentenced him to six years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of RM15.45 million, with an additional 18 years’ jail in default of payment.
Mohd Isa was acquitted and discharged by the Court of Appeal on 6 March 2024, prompting the prosecution to pursue a further appeal to the Federal Court.
The apex court heard arguments in the appeal last Thursday and fixed Tuesday for the delivery of its ruling.
Mohd Isa is accused of receiving RM3.09 million in bribes through his former special officer, Muhammad Zahid Md Arip, from former board member of Gegasan Abadi Properties Sdn Bhd, Ikhwan Zaidel.
The alleged gratification was said to be a reward for his role in facilitating approval by Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd for the purchase of the Merdeka Palace Hotel and Suites in Kuching, Sarawak, for RM160 million.
The offences were allegedly committed at Level 49, Menara Felda, Platinum Park, Persiaran KLCC, Kuala Lumpur, between 21 July 2014 and 11 December 2015.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz appeared for the prosecution, while Mohd Isa was represented by counsel M. Athimulan. - February 10, 2026
