PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) was plunged deeper into crisis after its official Facebook account displayed a banner urging its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, to step down, intensifying speculation of an imminent leadership showdown.
The banner, uploaded late last night, featured Muhyiddin’s image alongside the words “Undur Muhyiddin” (“Step Down Muhyiddin”) and a status update declaring, “Masanya sudah tiba” (“The time has come”), prompting a flurry of reactions across social media.
As of now, no official explanation has been issued regarding the change.
The development comes ahead of a Special Meeting of the Supreme Leadership Council scheduled to take place at the party president’s residence at 10am today, amid mounting internal strife.
The turmoil has escalated sharply following the expulsion of 17 BERSATU members by the party’s Disciplinary Board as of yesterday, including four Members of Parliament and two state assemblymen.
The sacking of Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin is widely expected to further inflame tensions and potentially trigger a wave of resignations among party leaders and grassroots members.
Ketereh Member of Parliament Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor, who is one of the Bersatu lawmakers who signed a statutory declaration calling for Muhyiddin’s resignation, said the move stemmed from a loss of confidence in the party’s top leadership.
“This is not a small possibility, but a strong likelihood that many leaders and members will leave the party given the crisis that is unfolding.
“If Bersatu truly wishes to survive, Tan Sri Muhyiddin must resign and make way for other leaders to helm the party.
“If Tan Sri Muhyiddin continues to dig in and remain, Bersatu’s future will be destroyed and the party will struggle to face the next General Election (GE),” he said when contacted.
Khlir added that the expulsion of Hamzah, who had served as deputy president, should not have taken place as he had committed no wrongdoing or incited any party members.
“It is not only many leaders who want Hamzah; PAS does as well. In fact, if Bersatu were not aligned with PAS and supported by the party, Bersatu would also collapse.
“So, it must be understood that the call for Muhyiddin to step down is to save the party,” he said.
Earlier, the party’s Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, confirmed that the Disciplinary Board, acting in accordance with Clause 22.5 of the party constitution, had decided to expel Hamzah with immediate effect. - February 14, 2026
