PADANG Rengas Member of Parliament Kapten Azahari Hasan has revealed that he received an offer from Parti Islam Se-Malaysia on the same day he was expelled from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, confirming that discussions have already taken place and signalling future cooperation.
Azahari, who was among 17 leaders dismissed by Bersatu’s disciplinary board, said PAS had reached out to him and that talks were held promptly.
“There were discussions (with PAS). There was indeed an ‘offer’… PAS did contact me.
“What is important is that we will cooperate. In my constituency, I need support and cooperation with PAS. I also have no problem with PAS in the area,” he told reporters when attending a briefing session to be addressed by Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Azahari was expelled alongside several senior figures, including Hamzah, who previously served as Bersatu deputy president and is the Member of Parliament for Larut.
Three other MPs — Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang), Fathul Huzir Ayob (Gerik) and Azahari himself — were also removed, together with two state assemblymen and a number of divisional leaders.
Reflecting on his dismissal, Azahari said he had anticipated the outcome after failing to attend proceedings before the party’s disciplinary board last Thursday.
“We (those expelled) had expected it because we did not attend on Thursday… but even if we had attended, we would still have been expelled,” he said, adding that he received notification of his removal via WhatsApp.
Despite the expulsion, Azahari maintained that his position as a Member of Parliament remains unaffected, as he was elected under the Perikatan Nasional banner in the last general election.
“Although we have been expelled, we are still Members of Parliament for Perikatan Nasional. Remember, we contested under the PN logo,” he said.
His remarks point to shifting alignments within the opposition coalition, as expelled Bersatu leaders explore closer cooperation with PAS while retaining their parliamentary standing under the Perikatan Nasional coalition. - February 14, 2026
