AUTHORITIES in Kota Kinabalu are continuing an extensive search for the final missing remains of a 44-year-old woman allegedly murdered and dismembered by her septuagenarian fiancé in a case that has shocked the local community.
The investigation into the gruesome discovery at Taman Indah Permai has entered a critical phase as forensic teams work to recover two missing body parts.
Kota Kinabalu Acting District Police Chief, Superintendent Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman, confirmed during the Op Selamat 25/2026 launch at Jalan Lintas on Wednesday that the search remains active despite more than a week passing since the initial discovery.
The case came to light last Thursday when municipal waste collectors discovered severed limbs, a torso, and a head discarded in rubbish bins and around shop-house premises at approximately 6:30 am.
Following the discovery, police apprehended a 71-year-old local man identified as the primary suspect, alongside his three children who were detained to assist with the ongoing probe.
Syed Lot stated that the investigation paper is currently being compiled and will be submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers once all evidence is consolidated.
He noted that there are no new developments that can be disclosed at this stage because the investigation is in its early stages and is not yet fully complete.
Regarding the legal status of the suspects, Syed Lot explained that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
He added that the case is still in the process of investigation and they cannot reveal all details yet.
The investigation paper will be completed depending on the information they receive, including details involving two recent arrests.
When questioned about the specific location of the remaining body parts, the Superintendent acknowledged that the primary suspect had provided information regarding the disposal site.
He confirmed that they know the location, but the search is still being conducted and details cannot be disclosed at this time.
The motive behind the brutal killing is currently believed to be rooted in jealousy and a dispute over financial expenditures incurred throughout the couple's relationship.
While the primary suspect remains the focal point of the inquiry, the remand period for his three children will depend on the current investigative requirements and will be conducted according to established procedures.
Police are also awaiting the final post-mortem report to determine if other criminal elements were involved in the victim's death.
Syed Lot maintained a cautious stance on the progress, telling reporters that they are still waiting for the full post-mortem report to complete the case investigation. - February 18, 2026
