EMBATTLED former Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin called on party leaders and elected representatives at parliamentary, state assembly, and divisional levels to translate the principles of the newly launched ‘Reset’ initiative into tangible outcomes, stressing the need for commitment and accountability across all tiers of the party.
Addressing the public in his capacity as Leader of the Opposition, Hamzah described ‘Reset’ as the foundational step towards organisational reform and collective strengthening, aimed at securing a clearer and more confident trajectory for the nation.
“Now, the responsibility lies with all comrades in the struggle, whether at divisional, state assembly, parliamentary, or organisational levels, to turn the spirit of ‘Reset’ into real action,” Hamzah said in a Facebook statement today.
“Ultimately, ‘Reset’ requires commitment, trust, and sincere responsibility. Reset is for religion, race, and country.”
The statement follows Hamzah’s recent expulsion from Bersatu, which was enacted immediately by the party’s Disciplinary Board under Clause 22.5 of its constitution.
Three other MPs — Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang), Kapten Azahari Hasan (Padang Rengas), and Fathul Huzir Ayob (Gerik) — and two state assemblymen, Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin (Sungai Manik), a member of Bersatu’s Supreme Leadership Council, and Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub (Bemban), were also expelled as part of the disciplinary action.
The day after his expulsion, Hamzah participated in a briefing on Political Direction and the ‘Reset’ initiative, which was attended by 19 Bersatu MPs.
He emphasised that ‘Reset’ is more than a slogan or a demonstration of support for any individual; it embodies courage, integrity, and a determination to pursue meaningful change.
“Reset is not just looking back with regret but stepping forward with full confidence,” he said, highlighting the importance of translating ideals into action.
Hamzah also expressed his gratitude to the attendees, which included current and former Bersatu leaders, MPs from across the country, and representatives from non-governmental organisations.
“I was deeply touched by the presence of friends at the Alumni Club of the University of Malaya.
“My sincere gratitude goes to the organisers, Bersatu Vice President Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, and fellow MPs who invited me as Leader of the Opposition.
“The attendance of friends from all over the country, including those outside politics, proves that the values of this struggle cannot be hindered by anyone,” Hamzah added. - February 18, 2026
