POLICE in Kuala Lumpur are hunting a man believed to be responsible for a series of vandalism incidents involving damaged automated teller machine screens in the Jinjang area since Monday, with total losses estimated at more than RM60,000.
Sentul District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Basri Sagoni, said the first report was lodged on 16 February at approximately 8.40 am by a 38-year-old Malay man employed as an ATM technician at a bank in Jinjang Selatan.
“The complainant informed us that while carrying out maintenance work, he discovered that four ATM screens had been cracked and were suspected to have been damaged deliberately by an unknown individual. The estimated loss for the incident is about RM4,000,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Basri added that on 17 February, between 12.24 pm and 10.16 pm, police received four additional reports concerning similar incidents. Two cases occurred at a bank branch in Jinjang Selatan, while one case each was reported in Jinjang Utara involving two different banks.
“The total estimated losses for the four incidents amount to approximately RM60,000,” he said.
Following the reports, the Sentul District Police Headquarters launched a special operation to trace and apprehend the suspect. Based on preliminary information, the suspect is believed to be a man, although his ethnicity has yet to be identified.
Investigations are ongoing as police work to determine the motive behind the vandalism and prevent further incidents in the area. - February 18, 2026
