THE body of a firefighter who drowned while attempting to save his younger brother off the coast of Bachok has been recovered, as search efforts continue for the missing sibling.

Ahmad Badrul Naim Abdul Wahab, 32, was found at 12.52 pm today by members of the public and rescue personnel, approximately 3.2 kilometres from the location where he was reported missing.

Bachok District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin, said the victim’s body was brought ashore at Pantai Kandis, where he was confirmed dead by an assistant medical officer from the Bachok Health Clinic.

“After being brought here to Pantai Kandis, the body was identified by the victim’s wife and parents.

“The body has been taken to Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia for a post-mortem,” he said when met at Pantai Kandis today.

Superintendent Mohamad Ismail added that search operations for the victim’s younger brother, Ahmad Nurruddin, 21, are still ongoing.

The incident has cast a sombre mood over the local community, as authorities intensify efforts to locate the second victim. - February 18, 2026
