THE Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) has detained a 65-year-old man who allegedly claimed to be a prophet, along with three other individuals, including a woman, at a premises in Rawang yesterday.
JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the arrests followed a complaint lodged on 9 February, alleging that the man had presented himself as a prophet and had influenced his family members.
"Based on preliminary investigations, the individual claimed to his followers that he had met Prophet Adam AS in physical form during the day and Prophet Muhammad SAW (PBUH) in the form of light at night," Mohd Shahzihan explained.
"He also stated that he encountered various prophets two to three times a week over the past two to three years in a national park here in the country."
The followers reportedly regarded the man as a messenger of God, believing that his instructions were divinely sanctioned. This included advice such as being exempt from prayer or fasting if feeling fatigued or unwell.
Mohd Shahzihan added that the detentions were carried out by a special task force from JAIS Headquarters.
The case is being investigated under Section 7 of the Selangor Syariah Criminal Enactment 1995, which covers acts or ceremonies conducted in connection with Islam that contravene Sharia law.
The arrests underscore JAIS’s ongoing vigilance against activities considered blasphemous or contrary to Islamic teachings, reflecting the authorities’ commitment to uphold religious integrity and public order. - February 22, 2026
