POLICE have ruled out foul play in the death of a 37-year-old woman who was found unconscious in a locked car at a petrol station in Paya Terubong in George Town on Sunday evening.
Police said a post-mortem conducted at the Forensic Medicine Department of Hospital Pulau Pinang confirmed that the woman died of pneumonia.
Northeast District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the findings showed no criminal element in the case.
“The cause of death was ‘pneumonia’, and police investigations have found no element of crime in this case.
“Accordingly, the case remains classified as a sudden death, and a sudden death report has been opened for further investigation,” he said in a statement today.
Police received a call regarding the incident at 7.55 pm. Initial investigations at the scene found the woman unconscious inside her vehicle after members of the public raised the alarm.
As the car doors were locked from the inside, assistance was sought from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia to gain access to the vehicle.
“Following the discovery that the car was locked from within, the services of the Fire and Rescue Department were called to open the door.
“The 37-year-old woman, who was from Paya Terubong, was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel,” Abdul Rozak said.
Earlier reports stated that the woman’s body was found in the driver’s seat of a Perodua Myvi, with various belongings inside the vehicle filling much of the interior space.
Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Khairul Annuar Mohd Rahim said his department received a call at 7.48pm requesting assistance to unlock the car. - February 23, 2026
