PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for a renewed commitment to prudence and maturity in international affairs, warning of the pressing need to restore “sanity” among world leaders amid mounting global challenges.
Speaking at the Foreign Ministry’s breaking of fast programme in the capital, Anwar expressed concern over the current state of global politics, while noting that Southeast Asia has remained comparatively stable.
“My main concern about international politics, which I do not want to touch upon now, is the need to bring back sanity among political leaders. Not too much in this region, but in others,” he said.
Although he declined to elaborate on specific geopolitical tensions, the prime minister underscored the urgency of strengthening responsible leadership beyond the region.
“May Allah give us the strength and resolve to work harder to preserve sanity, not only here but internationally.”
In his address, Anwar commended the Foreign Ministry, widely known as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, for what he described as its dedication and professionalism, particularly during Malaysia’s leadership role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations last year.
“He (Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin) and his team, under the guidance of the foreign minister (Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan) did a superb job,” he said.
The prime minister further praised the ministry’s efforts in strengthening Malaysia’s international profile, emphasising that overseas engagements have delivered concrete outcomes.
“Wisma Putra’s engagements go beyond courtesy visits, as they are designed to deliver tangible benefits while providing opportunities to elevate Malaysia’s standing as a trading nation,” he said.
Earlier, Anwar launched the Foreign Ministry Strategic Plan 2026–2030, outlining Malaysia’s diplomatic direction for the next five years and setting the framework for continued engagement with foreign governments, international organisations and strategic partners. - February 24, 2026
