ONE of the five victims who died in the house fire tragedy in Kampung Pamah Kulat, Jalan Ulu Dong in Raub, early this morning, was a student at the MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) Bentong.

MARA chairman, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, when confirming the matter, said the victim, the late Ruby Adira Batreisya Mohd Alawi, was awaiting her SPM results.

Earlier, Raub District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman, was reported to have said that apart from Ruby Adira Batreisya, 17, the heartbreaking incident also claimed the lives of her parents, Mohd Alawi Muhammad, 56, and Zaleha Adam @ Ibrahim, 44, as well as the victim's two other siblings, Ruby Adlina Banin Mohd Alawi, 14, and Ruby Azyan Barizah Mohd Alawi, 10.

Mohd Shahril said that the couple's other two children were not at home at the time of the incident because they were staying in a hostel.

The two siblings who are now orphans are Ruby Adalia Balqis Mohd Alawi, 19, who is currently studying at Gambang Matriculation College, Kuantan, and Ahmad Balia Murqam Mohd Alawi, 15, who is studying at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dong.

Asyraf Wajdi, in a statement today, admitted that he was very saddened by the tragic incident at around 3.44 am.

In fact, he said, the fire destroyed 100 per cent of the house structure, while three cars and three motorcycles were also damaged.

"MARA is very saddened by this heartbreaking incident. God willing, MARA will provide appropriate assistance and ensure that the welfare of the family members left behind continues to be given attention and the support needed during this difficult period," he said.

Asyraf Wajdi also prayed that the souls of all the victims concerned would be blessed and placed among His faithful servants.

The Director-General of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad, was previously reported to have said that three victims who died in the fire were found in the bathroom, while the other two were just outside the house. – February 26, 2026
