THE special committee formed to investigate the issue of share ownership by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki is expected to submit its investigation report to the government next week.
Madani Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the special committee, chaired by Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, is now almost completing the investigation process.
“The special committee is almost completing the investigation process and will submit its report next week,” he said at a weekly press conference today.
Fahmi explained that the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also discussed in depth the alleged share ownership of Azam as well as the issue of misuse of the MACC for corporate gain.
"Regarding the issue of misuse of the MACC institution for corporate benefits, a police report has been made. The police are conducting an urgent investigation to identify any parties who have violated the law to be brought to justice," he stressed.
He added that the Cabinet agreed that the allegations were a serious issue and took note of the proposal to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI).
"The Cabinet will first examine the special committee report and consider follow-up actions, including the need for an RCI investigation," said Fahmi.
On February 12, international media, Bloomberg, published an investigative report on Azam in which witnesses and victims recounted how MACC officers conspired with the corporate mafia to forcibly take over ownership of listed public companies.
The report was made after previous revelations that Azam allegedly owned millions of shares in listed companies worth about RM800,000, thus violating a government circular prohibiting civil servants from holding such shares.
Azam, however, denied the allegations and filed legal action against Bloomberg. – February 27, 2026
